Art commission scams are formulaic. Once you have seen the pattern, they are obvious.
The overpayment
A buyer sends more than the agreed price and asks for the difference back. The original payment is later reversed and you are out both amounts.
The rush job
Urgency is used to skip your normal process. Anyone genuinely in a hurry will still accept your normal terms.
The one rule
Never send work or refunds until the original payment has fully cleared and is past its reversal window.
